"Oh I wish I was a JHO with venflons in my hair,...."

Sandi Thom - I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair Summer is finally here, exams are over at last! Now for something different - a bit of summer madness!

I'm sure you've all heard the recent great single "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker..." by Sandi Thom.

We often hear doctors reminising about how different hospitals, and medical practice, were in the past - eg. matrons ran the wards, no bleeps, full weekends on call, no CT or MRI scanners, etc. So I thought why not make a medical version (parodie) of Sandi Thom's song. It could start something like:

"I wish I was a JHO with venflons in my hair,...." (or could use "Foundation Year" instead of JHO or whatever. Perhaps even include "medicalfinals" somewhere!!)

Use the white text entry are below to enter your version.

The best entry, which we will publish on the site, will get a free copy of the book: Medics' Guide to Work and Electives Around the World: A Guide to Travelling and Working Abroad (Paperback) by Mark Wilson
, which would be very helpful if planning for your elective or future work overseas.

Perhaps, like Sandi Thom's song, your lyrics might even be made famous by the internet. You retain the copyright to your lyrics.

Original lyrics for "I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker"

Artist: Sandi Thom;   Album: Smile... It Confuses People

[Chorus:]
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In '77 and '69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

When the head of state didn't play guitar
Not everybody drove a car
When music really mattered and when radio was king
When accountants didn't have control
And the media couldn't buy your soul
And computers were still scary and we didn't know everything

[Chorus]

When pop stars still remained a myth
And ignorance could still be bliss
And when god saved the queen she turned a whiter shade of pale
My mom and dad were in their teens
And anarchy was still a dream
And the only way to stay in touch was a letter in the mail

[Chorus]

When record shops were still on top
And vinyl was all that they stocked
And the super info highway was still drifting out in space
Kids were wearing hand me downs
And playing games meant kick arounds
And footballers still had long hair and dirt across their face

[Chorus]

I was born too late into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
